Forever Rebellious
Since the dawn of time, well probably not that far back, but since the mid fifties a war between teens and parents has gone on. When Rock n’ Roll first came about parents were in shock that their kids were into that kind of music. The music they were supposed to be listening to is orchestral music, and/ or show music. Once the beast was unleashed, many parents believed that their teens were corrupted. Rock n’ Roll was a beast that grabbed you by the balls and wouldn’t let go. For all that got in the way, it would throw you against the wall. In the early 60’s there was a war in Vietnam going on. The war here between teens and parents raged on. Teens were experimenting with Pschycidellic drugs. They thought it was cool, but little did they know that they screwed them over. Parents did what they could to stop them. But the teens however, rebelled. During that time period a family, who lived on a huge 120 acre farm, threw Woodstock. The parents grounded the teens just to get them not to go. You can see why the parents did what they did, but the teens rebelled because they wanted to have fun and see their friends, they were young for crying out loud! Teens felt chained, much as I do when I get grounded and I can’t go do what I want. Teens then and today, I have a feeling that their parents are trying to control them as well. Parents thought they were doing right, but the teens thought they were doing wrong.

Come time it was the mid 70’s, the war in Vietnam ended. A larger mass of teens rebelled against their parents. It seemed everything they tried to do to make their kids listen to them, backfired. All the teens wanted to do was be free. The parents became concerned, but the young didn’t care, they did what ever the flip they want. When the 80’s dawned, the music got worse in the parents mind, but got heavier, louder, better, and the rock stars looked better in the teens mind. Hence the title Glam Metal. The adults called Rock n’ Roll “Devils Music” because of the lyrics and sound that the artists produced. On song in particular really set off the bomb. “The Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden, mentioned the number 666. The teens had to be really careful about that particular song, because if a parent heard that song they would think that their kid has gone Satanic. That’s when the law was drug into the war; the only problem was that the law too listened to “Devils Music”. Some of the parents even gave in to their kids, and they too went on listening to bands such as Van Halen, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Judas Priest, and Skid Row. In many ways bands like these would help support teens and their quest for freedom. The adults made one final large “gonna get ya but grounded for life,” attempt. That attempt was the PMRC. But the youth hated it and Dee Snyder was the voice for everyone. Meanwhile the young were wondering what happened to their rights to have freedom of speech…freedom to do what their heart desired. However, nothing seemed to be working, everyone was really ticked at Tipper Gore.

Many ups and downs cause the rebellion; it could be either one’s fault. Is it the parents fault for trying to be control freaks on their children, and set their minds of what was said to be the proper manner of the 40’s? Or is it the hot blooded, rockers who just want to have their piece of mind and their life and not that of their parents? If it were the 80’s I would pretty much blame “Tipper led the war against the record industry…She said she saw the devil on her MTV.” But its hard to say who to blame, parents, teens, music, people who hate rock n’ roll. My heart has been swallowed by the beast, I like it, but many could disagree that wanting to be my own person is a bad thing.
